Should I post to the news tab if I have something like a new song or animation or art-piece? I ain't used to advertising lol.

It's the same answer as with half of the questions you ask your general practitioner/family doctor: "It depends." ;)

If you improved meaningful since the last time you advertised your work or if you finished a really big project, that yes. But your fans will see a notification for every submission you make anyway.

@Zeava Let me put it like this: 'Punching people in the face' is also a good way to get "attention". Negative attention.
There are not a lot of users who even 'read' the Artist News. (Something you would notice if you read them yourself...)
Most user will either block spammers or ignore them the old-fashioned way.

The best method to attract 'positive attention' is to put out _quality_art_.

So practice. This is something that 'every creative person ever' talking about their craft will tell you that is get easier and quicker, the more often you do. It is literally like grinding in an RPG.

I would recommend that you look into anatomy, lighting, shading, and perspective to begin with.
